Requirements: This activity requires that you have a classroom computer. A projection system, large screen TV, or interactive white board would be ideal.
The Kerpoof website has a great activity called “Make a Picture” that enables ESL kids or classrooms to create scenery that includes animals they have been studying. It is simple to use:
- Select a background scene.
- Using the search function, search for various animals such as “mouse”, “cat” or “dog”.
- After clicking the animal it will appear in the scene.
- Using the text tool spell animal names and position the text next to the animal.
- That’s it! The scenes can be saved, emailed, or printed.
Possible uses:
- Make a scene together, as a class. Then suggest students go home and use this site to practice there English skills with their parents.
- Setup a computer center where students create their own scenes.
P.S.
Although I’m demonstrating this with animals, this web application has a large vocabulary allowing it to be used in many subject areas. Some ESL kids will find this very motivating!
