Here are a few internet activities that can be used to promote number discussion with ESL students.
The counting candles activity includes several cakes of different colors with an increasing number of candles on top of each cake. After ESL kids have learned their colors, numbers, the words “cake” and “candle” they can starting describing what they see. Of course, this can be a great way for them to learn some of these concepts in the first place.
The counting fish activity allows the teacher to populate the screen with several octopus, fish, lobsters, and jellyfish. This is a great chance for ESL kids to combing animal vocabulary skills with counting and simple sentence construction.
The bee counting activity has random numbers of bees fly across the screen. The time sensitive nature of this program adds a little bit of fun pressure to produce language before the bees fly off the screen.
