Requirements: This post requires that you have a classroom computer. Some type of projection system, large screen TV, or interactive white board would be ideal.
Wikijunior over at Wikibooks has a nice animal alphabet book that provides us with several activities for ESL kids.
Book Features:
- An animal has been found for each letter of the alphabet.
- Using hyperlinks each page of the book can be clicked to.
- A narrated video has been created from these pages.
Suggested ESL activities:
- Work through parts of the internet book before watching the video to illicit classroom discussion.
- Pause the video before each page to see if kids can predict what the speaker will say.
- Follow this up by creating your own class animal book. Record the class reading each page and include this in a video or Power Point presentation.
- As a class make animal posters to put around the classroom. The classroom animal book will be on the wall! If your ESL students are especially young or new at English consider using these animal coloring pages as a starting point.
