My name is David Gammill and I have taught ESL students both in the United States and in Japan. I have found that customizing materials for ESL students to be very helpful! All the printable resources on this site were created by me and you are free to use them in classroom. Redistribution, electronic or otherwise, is not allowed.
ESL Activities.org offers materials for ESL kids in the below themes. There is more to come, so be sure to check back!
Each theme is covered by most of the below resource types. This helps students to have a deeper understanding of the material by addressing a range of learning styles. This also empowers the teacher to select activities which are appropriate and interesting for the students.
- Links to ESL music videos that contain easy to understand lyrics. Great for ESL kids!
- Printable ESL books
- ESL flashcards
- ESL sentence writing worksheets
- ESL word searches that have been illustrated.
- ESL listening activities that promote discussion.
- ESL posters that can be used to make a great word wall!
- Coloring pages with vocabulary. These are intended for the beginning ESL kids.
- Technology resources for young ESL learners. These resources require a classroom computer. Preferably, there is also a projector, large screen TV, or interactive white board connected to the computer.
These resources can be used by either teachers or parents hoping to help their children at home. Each learning environment is different, and therefore use of these activities and resources will be different for everyone. Some classes might have a center for word searches where students can work cooperatively. Other classes might use the sentence writing worksheet as side one, and the word search as side two.

P.S.
When selecting the name for this website, I decided to go with “ESL” for the simple fact that this is the term most people seem to be using. The terms ESL, ELL, and ESOL are often used interchangeably. Even within the same school! Of course there are EFL (English as a foreign language) students as well! The resources on this website can be of use in a variety of settings, though the impetus behind them has developed while working for an immersion program in Japan.
